Robot Art is a large topic. I make robot generated art, that is, I use the robots to extend the kind of marks that can be made. The robots are tools that increase the mathematical precision of the marks and create opportunities for random and beneficial accidents. The robots also contribute to making an art that is uniquely 21st century.
A strong influence of Asian art, especially calligraphy, is evident. The strength and suppleness of the lines reflect many years of study..
This summer I will be at a residency in New York City, during July and August. I will be part of the internationally known "Art Camp" at New York Studio Gallery, painting live during the gallery open hours. Work will be displayed in the gallery and you are welcome to drop by next door to the studio and watch or discuss paintings in progress
I am developing new robots and approaches for a New York centric body of work. CAD design, electronics, schematics, logic diagrams, etc. used algorithms inspired by the grid layout of many Manhattan streets. I am adding compasses to a few robots, so that they will be able to execute Manhattan grid lines just like schematics and I will build cityscape imagery built with these mark types.
